OXFORD AND THE UNIVERSITY

Come with me on a ‘taylor made’ tour to see the oldest University in the English-speaking world, where generations of students have lived and studied amongst the ‘dreaming spires’…

I can guide you around the renowned sights of the University, such as the Sheldonian Theatre, which has hosted graduation for 350 years, the Bodleian Library, the Radcliffe Camera, and of course the famous colleges.

“We had a fantastic tour of beautiful Oxford with Edward… He made the experience really fun, with the sort of little titbits about Oxford life and history that really brought it all to life…” – Sara B., UK

World-famous colleges

Every student belongs to one of the 38 Oxford colleges, each with its own history and traditions. From the grandeur of Christ Church, where Lewis Carroll dreamed up the adventures of ‘Alice in Wonderland’, to the stunning cloisters and gardens of Magdalen College, and the traditional dining hall of New College, I can show you the best Oxford has to offer.

Many of the smaller colleges are equally beautiful but less well known, and I always like to include a surprise or two on my tours – a door that opens into a hidden quadrangle, or a view of a beautiful medieval lecture hall.

The legacy to be explored in Oxford is immense, from the Oxford English Dictionary to Oxford marmalade; from world leaders to Olympic sportspeople; from pioneering scientists to romantic poets. Along the way you will learn which Oxford colleges were the first to admit women, and which one tries very hard to admit no students at all!

Watching the detectives…

It’s always fun to include any special interests on a tour. Recently, I’ve led walks based around the scientific and medical connections to the University, the modern architecture, and Australian links to Oxford.

And if you’re on the trail of the fictional detectives Morse and Lewis I can show you the quadrangles where the crimes were committed and the back streets where the heroes searched for clues. If you’re really in luck you may even see an episode being filmed!

I thoroughly recommend this walking tour.
Edward gave us a fascinating insight to the life of students at Oxford University, both past and present. Edward’s talk was full of intriguing details, enhanced by fascinating and often amusing anecdotes…
Our son, who is a fourth year student, really enjoyed the tour too. Thank you, Edward.”
